Hi Frits,

In June I observed Steatoda bipunctata-spiderlings from the very first day, when they left the eggs (here you find some pics [entries of June 12th and June 22]: http://spinnen-forum.de/smf/index.php?topic=3046.90).
At one stage they showed the triangles on their back as well (same place; entry of July 1st),  but as I saw the mother before and after laying the eggs and guarding the place, I am sure about the spiderlings being S. bipunctata.

Kind regards, Roman
Thanks Roman, yes, at a certain stage they look exactly like my young S. bipunctata. I hope I can rear the spider of this topic, but he/she doesn't seem to be eating very much yet. I'm curious as to how it will turn out.

@Stefan: thanks for your comment, I guess it can be either species at this stage...

I guess this spiderling is at least 2 weeks old. If you feed it (with lice e. g.), it will grow very fast. One of the spiderlings of another batch which left a kokon-like structure on May 18th (>>http://spinnen-forum.de/smf/index.php?topic=3046.75; they must have been trapped in it for about two weeks) had reached the size of 3 mm on July 1st. They are ferocious hunters! On the other hand, I had found such a tiny Steatoda bipunctata-spiderling in the cellar last December, and it remained as tiny as it was until spring, due to lack of food, I guess. Only then it started growing.

Kind regards, Roman

It looks like Niclas was right. The spider has moulted and it definitely looks like Steatoda bipunctata.
